Created by scientist Bolivar Trask, the Sentinels are giant robots built to capture or exterminate mutants. They adapt to the powers of their targets and are among the greatest threats the X-Men have ever faced.

In the 1990s comics the X-Men split into two teams, Blue and Gold, and X-Men #1 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee introduced the Gold Team led by Storm. This statue shows Sentinel #3 with one of its legs frozen by a hero during a clash with the Gold Team, as if it had just stepped off the comic book page.
