On Isla Sorna, in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning sci-fi sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park, velociraptors hunted the survivors as they made their way into the island's dangerous interior.

Five practical effects were built for the raptors – three full-scale animatronics (one female and two males), an animatronic head and torso, and a pair of mechanised wearable legs for foot shots. Combined with ILM's CGI, they were used mainly in two sequences: the Long Grass massacre and the Worker Village chase. The wild male raptors were given a richer, more vibrant colour scheme than the monotone grey-brown females of the original film.

The raptor eyes were made by Stan Winston Studio, with a sculpted yellow core, orange latticework, green colouring on the sides and a clear dental acrylic coating. During pre-production, an eye was set into a detailed eye-socket section to show Spielberg how the eyes could move.
