Description
Scottish Flintlock Pistol - Scotland 1760
Celebrate Highland craftsmanship with the Scottish Flintlock Pistol - Scotland 1760.
An all-metal reproduction of a Scottish flintlock pistol from around 1760, finished in brass with a simulated loading and firing mechanism.
All-metal Scottish pistols were carried by Highland gentlemen and soldiers alike, prized as much for their decoration as their function. Flintlock pistols worked by striking a flint against steel to throw a spark into the priming pan, igniting the powder charge. Each shot had to be reloaded by hand through the muzzle – powder, ball and wad – so in battle they were usually fired once before the owner reached for a sword.
