In Saint Seiya, created by Masami Kurumada in 1986, five bronze warriors protect the human incarnation of the goddess Athena. The Master of Sanctuary, or Pope Ares, is Athena's right hand and the leader of the Saints, but in the Sanctuary Arc the role is secretly taken by the Gemini Gold Saint Saga, consumed by his evil side.

His identity hidden by a purple mask and a red dragon-crested helmet, showing only his long white hair, he wears a white mantle over a blue tunic and red shoulder armour with long silver spikes. He raises his left palm, casting energy beams, on a base with the steps of Athena's Sanctuary.
