Description
Military Sharps Rifle - USA 1859
The marksman’s rifle of the Civil War – the Military Sharps Rifle - USA 1859.
A reproduction of the Model 1859 Sharps rifle, made of metal and wood with a simulated loading and firing mechanism.
Designed by Christian Sharps in 1848, the breech-loading Sharps was famed for its accuracy and fast reloading compared with muzzle-loaders of its day. Only around 11,000 Model 1859 rifles were made, many going to Berdan’s Sharpshooters during the American Civil War, and the rifle went on to become an icon of the Old West in film and fiction.
