Description
The Spear of the Shield Wall.
Before blades crossed...
The spear struck first.
The Hanwei Viking Thrusting Spearhead is inspired by the formidable weapons carried by Norse warriors throughout the Viking Age. Designed for close-quarters combat behind the shield wall, thrusting spears offered exceptional reach, speed and precision, making them one of the most effective weapons in a Viking's arsenal.
Faithfully recreating the artistry of surviving archaeological finds, this impressive spearhead features intricate Niello-style decoration, inspired by the traditional Viking metalworking technique that combined engraved patterns with dark metallic inlays to produce striking decorative contrast.
Historically, the Niello process used a sulphur-based alloy containing silver, fired into engraved designs to create bold black detailing against polished metal. Hanwei recreates this appearance using a permanent decorative process that captures the same rich visual effect while providing lasting durability.
Designed to fit a 1-inch (25.4mm) diameter wooden shaft, this beautifully detailed spearhead makes an outstanding display piece on its own or mounted as part of an authentic Viking collection.
Please note that this spearhead features a hollow cast construction and is intended for display, historical re-enactment and living history rather than functional use.
