Description

The Axe of the Franks.

Before swords dominated the battlefield...

There was the Francisca.

One of the most distinctive weapons of the Early Middle Ages, the Francisca earned its legendary reputation in the hands of the Frankish warriors who conquered much of Western Europe. Designed for devastating close combat and short-range throwing, its sweeping blade profile was engineered to bite through armour, while its unique shape made it one of history's most recognisable axes.

Expertly crafted by Paul Chen at the renowned Hanwei forge, this beautifully antiqued Francisca faithfully recreates the historic design using premium materials and authentic construction techniques.

The carbon steel axe head features an aged antiqued finish that gives the appearance of a battle-worn historical artefact, while the traditionally styled hardwood shaft incorporates the distinctive backswept profile found on surviving originals. A swelled end provides secure head retention and reflects the practical engineering of the original Frankish design.

Whether displayed as part of a medieval weapons collection or appreciated as an outstanding historical reproduction, this Francisca captures the spirit of one of Europe's most influential warrior cultures.
