In TMNT: The Last Ronin, a five-issue miniseries by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird published by IDW in 2020, Michelangelo is the last surviving Turtle in a dark future ruled by the Foot Clan. Colder and more serious than before, he seeks to avenge his brothers' deaths.

Crouched on the long, curved tiles of a Japanese pagoda roof, he wears a black ninja costume with fabric and metal armour, a hood, a black mask and infrared goggles hanging from his neck. On his back he carries a bō staff and a ninjatō sword, with a sai and a nunchaku on his tactical belt; he holds another nunchaku in his left hand and his brothers' coloured bandanas in his right.
