Within the wide range of short weapons, the C-96 has the honour of bearing the name "classic", also known as "Broomhandle". It was a semiautomatic pistol produced in Germany from 1896 to 1937, created by the great Peter Paul Mauser. This semiautomatic pistol, with more than a century of history, has an extremely functional and practical design that has become to be recognized as one of the best weapons in the world.

By way of helping the community, I’d like to offer these two tips for the Denix C96. This is a lovely replica, but mine had a couple of faults, which I have managed to address. If you have either of these problems here’s how I solved them: 1. The screw attaching the breech to the frame was missing, which meant that the breech could lift up and down every time the pistol was cocked. Unfortunately, The Sword Stall weren’t able to provide a replacement screw, so I went through the spares at work and found a short 3.5mm cheese-head screw that did the trick. I coloured the head black with a Sharpie so it would blend in. 2. The rear sight was very loose and ‘floppy’ and jumped up and down every time the action was triggered, which I found a little annoying. I resolved this by tapping the pin that holds the sight in place out using a light hammer and a carpet tack, I then cut down a small spring (a spring from a ball-point pen should be ideal) and inserted this into the small space at the front end of the sight mount (if you don’t have a spring this could be packed out with paper etc.) then refitted the sight, tapping the pin back in very gently. Problem solved! I hope that some of you find these tips helpful, these simple hacks have elevated my review to five stars.

The Mauser C96 has long been one of my favourite weapons, so a decent replica was a must have. Whilst this is a decent replica in terms of the look and the functionality of the basic action, and fitting of the stock, there are a couple of issues. 1. As with most Denix 'modern' firearms, the safety catch is moulded so doesn't work. 2. The rear sight is very loose and tends to flop about, as can be seen when the action is fired in the video. 3. On the one I received there is a screw missing between the breech block and the frame, so when operating the cocking action the breech block lifts away from the frame. I am hoping that the Sword Stall can source a replacement screw for me, as, so far, I haven't found one of the correct size myself. Delivered very quickly and is, as I said, a decent replica.

It certainly looks the part. The stock slides on well and the wood finish is really nice. The rear sight swings up and down but that’s all. It is not however a semi automatic but a really nice static model.
